Jacob Wexler was born in 1912 in Latvia. He lived in Hamburg where he was educated in the arts. He immigrated to Israel in 1933. Upon his arrival in Israel he initially settled in a kibbutz and thereafter moved to Haifa. Throughout his artistic career his style has encompassed modern art techniques ranging from abstract expressionism to the study of color and the abstract, kinetic art and forms in movement. His signature though, is a recurrent theme throughout his body of work and it is the figurative work in black, red and gray hues. Wexler was part of the 'New Horizons' group. In 1953 he participated in the San Paulo Biennale and in 1960 in the Graphics Biennale in Tokyo. Wexler has exhibited in major museums and galleries in Israel. Winner of the Dizengoff, The Jewish Agency, The Haifa-Struck and the Jerusalem prize, Wexler died in 1995. |
