Igael Tumarkin was born in Germany in 1933. Tumarkin is an Israeli sculptor,painter, theoretician and stage designer. He studied sculpture in Ein Hod, a village of artists near Mount Carmel.
One of Israel's most acclaimed artists,Tumarkin has exhibited his works internationally and is winner of numerous prizes including the Sandberg Prize,1992 August Rodin Prize,1997 reward of excellence from the President of the Federal Republic of Germany,1998 Sussman Prize and the Israel Prize of 2004 to name a few.
Tumarkin frequently exhibits in Israel, Europe and the United States and is recognized internationally. His art involves strong political statements and is thus considered a highly controversial artist, yet at the same time, one of the most dominant figures in modern Israeli art.
