Ovadia Alkara was born in 1939 in the Druse village of Daliat-el-Carmel, Israel. He Studied at the Beaux Arts Academy in Paris. He has exhibited at leading art galleries in Israel, the U.S and Europe, especially in Germany. His works are contained in important collections such as in the Libraries of the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Israel Museum. From 1965 he has divided his time between his workshop in New York and his home in Ein Hod. His works exhibit two artistic cultures, the traditional illustrative inheritance of the East and Western Modern art.
The world revealed in Alkara's paintings evokes a sense of an ancient, mythical and legendary universe in which fantastic creatures and supernatural heroes walk the earth and glide through the air. The harshness of existence becomes apparent in the world, but there is also awe and wonder at the powers beyond man's reach. Alkara is famous for his series of paintings of "stamps", analogues to global questioning concerning art, politics & culture.
